About Rug Masters

Oriental Rug Retailer of the Year 2006

With a family tradition dating back to 1912, Vicki Kammeyer, along with her son Kurt, are the Lowcountry’s foremost experts regarding Oriental and Persian rugs. Vicki’s father, Edward Shogry, opened Rug Masters in Charleston nearly 70 years ago. Their original location on Calhoun Street was destroyed by Hurricane Hugo in 1989.

The Kammeyer family then built the larger store which they currently occupy on Morrison Drive, expanded their offering of fine rugs, and created one of the only facilities in the United States which is dedicated to the cleaning of Oriental rugs. “It’s one thing to simply sell a product, and it’s another to love and understand it” says John.  Rug Masters knows rugs.
